Red Cardell is one of the best known bands in Brittany, France, where the traditional music, essentially Celtic, remains an important part of popular culture. The band is a trio featuring Jean Michel Moal (accordion), Manu Masko (drums and samples) and Jean Pierre Riou (guitar and vocal) was formed 15 years ago.
The band's original idea was to blend Breton music, punk rock and French folk songs, these being their early influences but other styles such as Electro, Eastern Europe, South American and North African eventually crept into the general sound.
Red Cardell, originally a "pub" band, have since developed into a concert band regularly playing the bigger festivals. With more than 1500 concerts in France, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Belgium, Ukraine and Québec among others and releasing 9 albums, Red Cardell are now firmly established.
Their latest studio recording “Le banquet de cristal” includes an impressive host of guest artists performing the Red Cardell repertoire. It has turned out to be a well-deserved tribute to their musicianship as performers and writers.
