The queenly event of Val d'Isere 2009 took place this morning with the Men's Downhill. While snow fell in abundance a few hundred meters further down the valley, the sun miraculously was on the side of the Face of Bellevarde. Some 25 000 spectators had gathered around and down the slope, ambient with sound of trumpets and bells, applause and screams of joy to encourage each of the 38 skiers who dare to rush !

A whimsical haze in the upper part of the piste has been instrumental with the race bid draw in the results of this event. John Kucera (Canada) becomes Downhill' World Champion, Didier Cuche (Switzerland) is 2nd from 4 hundredth, Carlo Junker (Switzerland) 3rd. Hotly contested competition, requiring technical skills and physical strength, a commitment that is not found in any other race.
